Palo Santo

Holy wood for a quiet mind and an open heart.

Palo Santo (Bursera graveolens) means "holy wood" in Spanish. It grows in South America, and its wood has a warm, sweet scent of citrus, pine and a hint of mint. Many people burn it to create a calm, uplifting atmosphere before meditation, yoga, journaling or rest.

What it represents

In the Andean traditions of South America, Palo Santo has long been used in ceremonies and rituals. Today it stands for gratitude, fresh starts, positive intention and a feeling of being grounded and at peace. It is often used to welcome good energy into a space.

How to use

  1. Hold the stick at an angle and light the tip for about 30 seconds.
  2. Blow out the flame so it smolders and releases its fragrant smoke.
  3. Place it in a fireproof dish, or move slowly through your space.
  4. Set an intention or name something you are grateful for.
  5. Press the tip into the dish or sand until it is fully out. The stick can be used again.

Safety: Never leave burning Palo Santo unattended. Keep away from children and pets. Use in a ventilated room.
